Roblox fonts
The honest version: Roblox filters all text and keeps names to plain characters. Check a username against the rules, grab keyboard-only styles that survive, or copy a fancy font for use outside Roblox.
Username checker and safe styles
These use only keyboard characters, so Roblox's character rules don't stop them.
As a Roblox username
- Only plain letters A–Z, digits and one underscore are allowed. Styled letters, spaces and symbols are not.
Passing the rules doesn't mean the name is free or will pass Roblox's filter. Roblox checks both when you save.

What Roblox accepts
Roblox Support says all text on the platform, including chat, usernames and display names, is continuously filtered. Roblox doesn't publish which Unicode characters pass, and we can't test every experience, so here is what the official pages do say, and what that means for fancy fonts.

Letters A–Z, digits and one underscore only, 3 to 20 characters. Styled letters are always refused. Changing it costs Robux.

Roblox's help page lists Japanese characters as the only extra character set, in beta, and display names that break the rules can be reset to your username. Expect styled Unicode letters to be refused.

All chat passes through Roblox's text filter. Styled letters may be blocked, replaced with hashtags (####), or let through. Roblox doesn't publish which styles pass, so treat any fancy font in chat as a gamble.

Like all text on Roblox, the About text is filtered, so styled letters may come out as hashtags.

Inside experiences you build
Creators must filter player-entered text through TextService, and Roblox's in-game fonts may lack shapes for rare Unicode letters, so styled text can show as boxes.

Styled Roblox-themed names work fine on other platforms, in video titles and on thumbnail art.
Fancy fonts for outside Roblox
For your Roblox YouTube channel, Discord server, group posts on other sites or thumbnail art, Unicode styles work fine. In Roblox itself, treat them as a gamble that may be filtered.

Can you use fancy fonts in Roblox?+
Mostly no. Usernames take only plain letters, digits and one underscore, display names officially support only extra Japanese characters (in beta), and chat goes through a filter that often blocks or hides styled letters. The keyboard-only styles on this page use plain characters, so they're your best bet.
Why does my Roblox chat show hashtags instead of my text?+
Roblox filters all chat. When the filter blocks something, it replaces it with hashtags. Styled Unicode letters are often caught because the filter can't read them as normal words, so a perfectly polite message in a fancy font can still come out as ####.
What are the Roblox username rules?+
Roblox staff set them out on the Developer Forum: 3 to 20 characters, letters and digits, and at most one underscore, which can't be first or last. Names also have to pass Roblox's filter and not already be taken. The checker on this page tests the first set of rules.
How often can I change my Roblox display name?+
Once every seven days, for free, according to Roblox Support. Your username is separate: changing it costs Robux.
Which Roblox fonts work in chat?+
Roblox doesn't publish a list, and the filter changes, so we won't promise any styled font will work. Plain-character tricks like spaced letters, alternating caps and xX_name_Xx survive because they're ordinary keyboard characters, as long as the words themselves are allowed.
Do styled letters work with screen readers on Roblox?+
Badly. Screen readers read Unicode styled letters as symbols or skip them, so players using one may not be able to read a styled name or message. Plain-character styles are much easier to read aloud.
